Hurray for Tom blogging about the writers

So then…spring has finally decided to show us its lovely face, and it couldn’t come any sooner either, especially with the summer closing in fast and everyone enjoying their holidays and summery plans… At Yew Tree however the fun and working hours, which are coincidently fun…never stop…

Many exciting projects have been happening over the last couple of weeks and months which many of you have read about in various blogs and updates or have seen for yourselves…the successful/brilliant/amazing/tear jerking successions of regional Shooting Truth performances (going to Kendal in less then a months time, its going to be epic!), the greatly praised Raised Curtain performances by the Gold Company at the Wakefield Theatre Royal, the Pecha Kucha night at Leeds Met and also the Black Company continuing to work hard on Blackout for a series of performances this month at The Hop and Sarah Thomas Dance School (April 27th – 29th

However for my blog this week, I wish to talk a little bit about the Ivory Company…aka The Writers…

At the moment we in the writers company have been working very hard on various up and coming projects for the next few months, which are all brilliant…these include, writing and performing classically inspired pieces of writings for the Classics at Clark Hall festival with other Yew Tree companies, creating site specific inspired works, collaborating in writing a full length play set a in teachers staff room with comedic and dramatic outcomes and most recently being commissioned by Sarah Osborne to write various poems, prose’s, songs and other bits and bobs inspired by all things music for an event of classical music performances this summer in Wakefield…

I love attending the writers sessions…over the last year nearly now I have become a more comfortable and inspired writer of poetry and stories thanks to everyone’s collected imaginations, support, fun loving nature and the general great times we all have together in the group every Wednesday evening. Every session is different to the last with the exercises, tasks and discussions we have and do…it’s just a pleasure be with the company and to continue working on this new passion I’ve been able to discover and nurture and I would ask the members of Yew Tree who don’t normally read up on or look into the activities of the writers company very much to do so, because we have a lot of great stuff happening at the moment and many more things to come as well and if anyone wishes to pop down to attend a session one day and see for yourself, your always more than welcome too…

On another cheeky little side note…I talked a bit about the Black Company and that we are in the making of our performance of Blackout…at the moment we are just about half way through the play in rehearsals and things are looking very, very good, and impressive as well…the combination of physical theatre, fast dialogue, naturalistic impressions and the classic Yew Tree style of story telling are making this show definately one to watch…I am loving how it is being brought together and how everyone in the company is investing so much energy and skill into the rehearsals, especially those that have just joined the Black Company now as fully fledged members and friends…So keep your eyes and ears pealed for the performance dates of Blackout on the facebook pages if you wish to come and watch how good a show it will be…

In the mean time, I hope you all have a lovely Easter holiday and thanks for reading…Cheers…
