Beth brings us up to date with what's happening at Crimson!

I was excited to get back to the usual Crimson Saturday session after the half term break and, because I couldn't go to the all day half term session, I was especially eager to see what had been added to our piece called, "Words".
With just two hours to play with, we were a bit short of time for the amount we had to do. So what would you forfeit: news or games? Well neither actually... It was decided that we could do a speedy round of news as long as we stood up.
After news we were asked why we go to Yew Tree. Did everyone want to be an actor? Was it a place to catch up with friends? Do we just go because it is fun? For the games? This helped us to remember why we started going to Yew Tree and made us think of how that would affect our performance when it came to being on stage at Wakefield Theatre, or any other stage for that matter.
One game we played was where we had to clap after three, wiggle and then make some strange noises. Different noises were added after each stage and they started to get weirder and more fun to play around with. The strategy behind the game was to try and remember the order and be able to go through it backwards; but that was before the twist. The last stage was when we had to put in as much effort as possible and forget worrying about the order. In the explanation at the end, Gemma told us that we had got to the time where we needed to stop worrying about the mechanics of the play and to start putting in the passion. As we continued to rehearse, we would combine the passion and the mechanics to master the performance. I thought that he game was great at showing how the passion made the performance more enjoyable and less robotic, so that anyone who was watching would be immersed.
We also had a fun game of amoeba, where everyone was determined not to lose and gain the new title. It's always fun to run around a room like a one-celled organism
It was time to run through the performance so far and add improvements to what we had already started. I always love starting from the beginning of this piece, partly because it's where the energy starts kicking in and also because the background music is incredibly catchy. The opening has started to piece itself together and has become more fluid as the weeks have passed. We continued with some patching together and I could finally watch the latest section and find a way to slot myself into it. I like the way that physical theatre has been mixed with words in the performance because I find that words are the basis of something and the was that we use our bodies adds to the explanation of what we are trying to portray.
The ending was added (we even had a run through of the bows) towards the end of the session. The ending is very similar to the beginning and so I find that it ties the performance together into a loop. A quick discussion about costume put me in a good mood to start writing over a white top with black and red permanent marker.

I look forward to the next rehearsals and for adding more words to my costume,
