Ellen from Gold Company ladies and gentlemen...

In comparison to many of the Yew Tree veterans at Gold Company, having been for two years, I am somewhat of a newcomer. Nevertheless, as life becomes scarier and my time with gold is drawing closer to its end...the more and more the fantastically crazy and wonderful people I see every Saturday morning are making me not want to leave. Every week we welcome more new members to Gold, and it makes me think back to my first ever session at Yew Tree…that terrifying moment you walk into the room full of strangers…the long wait before the dreaded moment you have to say your best and worst…the first improvised performance…but soon enough you become part of the family that is Yew Tree. You spend the whole week looking forward to Saturday mornings, you develop new friendships with people of all ages, and you even start to think of your best and worst earlier than two minutes before your turn! Yew Tree becomes part of your life, and it is most definitely part of mine that I will never ever forget.
This week’s session was a brilliant one, and rather unusual to say the least… It started out with walking around the room and discussing our favourite meal of the week with the closest person, pretty standard to start off with, but when we were asked to try and hold a conversation about trees, I knew it was going to be a session to remember…
What came next was a surprise to everyone, as Sarah announced that she had no plan for Gold Company! (A terrifying and exciting prospect…) After descending into anarchy for a moment whilst trying to decide on which of the many games to play, the decision was made to start with an epic games session. We played an extremely competitive game of Yee-Ha, a hilarious game of King of the Jungle, the Bean Game, and finally a very charming yet violent game of Master and Servant, which was to be the inspiration for our pieces of theatre for the day.
The performances were as hilarious and diverse as ever, but, and I don’t know whether it was the new members adding new dynamics to the group or a reaction to the anarchy that had occurred earlier in the session, there was some sort of heightened sense of the ridiculous and epic. For example, in short, the performances involved: Sir Coolio and his partying servants, a choice between fashion and Star Trek, Princess Harry Walsh being rescued from her tower, a spectacular display of burglary from burglars named after Disney animals, a fight in a church, the Barry Kyle Show, and the unforgettable and petrifying…death by Yew Tree.
It truly was a memorable session, and I want to say thank you for giving me such fantastic memories gold company, and for making my weeks a whole lot brighter and full of banter.
