December at Yew Tree Youth Theatre - the Highlights!

Each year there are things in our YTYT schedule that are repeated, that have become annual events in our calendar and bring happiness through their familiarity and the opportunity to build on successes and lessons of previous years.  The Christmas shows are one of these annual events and Leah, in her blog this week, illustrates just how important they are to the youth theatre and the individuals within it.  This year they are on the 12th and 13th of December which makes them closer than you think.  I have been so pleased with this weeks rehearsals as I have watched all of the companies I direct start to pull their shows into shape.  No less delightful is the anticipation of seeing the shows I'm not involved in by Crimson and Purple...it's lovely being able to sit back and watch brilliant Youth Theatre work that you have no responsibility for.

Another of our annual events is National Connections - an opportunity for older youth theatre members who are really interested in performance to enhance their acting experience by taking on a project that really pushes them as thinking actors.  Our play this year is "Tomorrow I'll be Happy,"  by Jonathan Harvey and it's a hard hitting play about hate crime.  Yesterday a truly talented and committed group of YTYT members auditioned and were cast and now we're all ready to go.  It's one of my favourite projects of the year due to it's intensity and focus on actor development and I can't wait to get started with rehearsals.

Other familiar events are happening on the 5th of December when the writers will be performing their original work at Nostell Priory and our Christmas Open Mic Night on the 20th of December at Henry Boons...it's all go!  It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible at both of these events.

However this December we have two new projects afoot...both happening in the next 10 days.  The first is an adult performance as part of the Wakefield Plays and Pints festival...it takes place on Saturday the 1st of December at 5.20 at Boons and should be throughly entertaining.  In fact the whole event is brand new...so if you're over 18 come and be part of something truly innovative and utterly Wakefield...our original play is called "Didn't Come with Matches" and stars the fabulous Gemma Whelan and Danny Bell...you'd be silly to miss it!

Finally on the 4th of December we have another new event - five of Black Company will be performing a Dickens play I have written relevantly entitled "Mr Dickens" as part of Christmas event in Wakefield for a firm of solicitors.  I mention this not to invite you to come as it is a private event but to illustrate the huge amount and range of work Yew Tree is undertaking in just one month...it's breathtaking when you think about it...so rest while you can...make sure you prepare as much as possible in the few remaining days of November because when we hit the festive month you won't know what's hit you!
