Compliments of the season...
My week at Yew Tree
has been pretty lovely to be honest.
The first highlight of
the week was on Monday at the final Sapphire session of the term which was an
absolute joy! After a term of
preparation and rehearsing making sure two versions of Rumplestiltskin were
ready for the Christmas Shows we had a week where we could simply play. It was lovely to have a week where
there was nothing that had to be done and instead take advantage of the fact
that we could do exactly what we wanted instead…all the things we had stopped
having time for. I’m looking
forward to the new year with this company who are so beautifully open and
accepting – the focus of the work is going to be entirely up to them and who
knows where their choices might take us.
Another highlight of
the week was the games session on Saturday. 64 members made the effort and piled into the home of Gold
Company to celebrate a wonderful term of YTYT. I love this annual event as it’s magic to bring together
lots of the different companies within the youth theatre and give them the rare
chance to collaborate on festive ridiculousness. I couldn’t help but be impressed at the range of
personalities the room held. The
diversity in terms of age, background, school, geography was so varied and yet
the common ground of the youth theatre created a bridge between them. It’s a wonderful things to be part of
as this bridge is unconscious and uncontrived…it just happens…
The final highlight
was the connections rehearsal where despite the proximity of the end of term
valuable work was done. We are
very much in the early stages of this project but already great things are
emerging out of a inspiring script.
The cast yesterday worked hard and produced excellent results, I have
such high hopes for the outcome…I am certain our production of The Wardrobe is
going to be quite something!
This of course is the
final blog before Christmas and so it would be remiss of me not to offer all of
our readers the compliments of the season…may your Christmas be everything you
wish it to be…a celebration of whatever it is you hold dear. YTYT are going to celebrate it in the
best way we know…an evening of song, spoken word, merriment and good
cheer...yep it’s Open Mic Night in just a few hours and I’ll let you know how
that went in our final blog of the year next week…Happy Christmas one and all!
