Izzy's Connections Blog

Mia and the Fish was my second connections with Yew Tree Youth Theatre and I loved every second of it. When reading the script, I was initially drawn to the character of Mia, her character development and the importance of her representation in this play. After auditioning I was delighted finding out I was double-cast Mia with Jess. I was double cast last year and it was such an amazing opportunity to learn so I was excited again to be working alongside such an incredible actress.

I loved watching the show come together whether that be watching it or playing the part of Mia. For Mia it was important to understand how her relationship with her friends and sister impacts every aspect of her actions. When connections week came, I was thrilled. I loved the flocking, round by and through and the physical theatre. One of my favourite aspects of this productions was the boat. It was unique abstract but so clear what it was and rlly helped portray the story. Working with this cast for a week straight was amazing and I made friendships with so many new people that I hope I will never loose.

Performing at the Cluntergate this year again was still daunting, but having the fish and cast walk through the audience authenticated this whole piece. It was incredible to perform and live through that story but then watch the audience when I was sat at the back and see how the play affected them.

After performing at Crofton, which was such an incredible opportunity, we went to Bridlington and participated in workshops. I adored playing that’s out on the beach and learning stage combat. Then getting to swap roles in the show gave me a new perspective on my character and on the group and showed us as an ensemble who secure we were being aware of other characters journeys and not just our own.

Finally, our performance at CAST was the best one yet, we had a lot of time to change our characters and now that me and jess had combined our part the story and emotion had developed so much. I wish I could go back and perform with these incredible people because this cast and team has helped me improve my acting exponentially and I will forever be grateful I was a part of this show
