Amelia L's Connections Blog
I have loved every minute of doing Connections. From the first day or rehearsal when we created a timeline of what we thought the important events of the show were to the final bow on the main stage at Cast it was emotional, uplifting and inspiring .
One of the key moments that will stay with me is Connection week which gave us the opportunity to explore our characters in more depth and get to know each other better as we spent time together outside of rehearsals as a cast. For me this was the first experience of working with a group who came together for a single show as opposed to being part of an established company. We had to quickly learn each other's ways of working to create a successful cast.
Another memorable moment was the trip to Bridlington with puppetry and stage combat workshops on the seafront followed by a switched up rehearsal where we all played a different character and a game of That’s Out on the beach then fish and chips before we headed home. Engaging in skills workshops with performers of all ages really focussed us on doing our best and the environment of the NODA celebration was special.
Finally having the opportunity to perform Mia and the Fish six times to the different audiences. Having never performed on a stage the size of Cast I was both excited and nervous but I couldn’t have done it without such an amazing group of people. As youth theatre actors we are used to performing in front of friends and family so to add the other audiences, from school classes to trainee actors, was energising.
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and try something different in such a safe and encouraging space and I can’t wait to see what we all do next. It takes more than four people to operate a fish. I give the eighteen company members three ticks.
