Time to reflect...

We have finally stopped and as always it is only when you stop that you can appreciate what you have achieved.  December was an absolute riot of youth theatreness…the final rehearsals and performances of the Christmas shows…A Vampire Story, final sessions and Wintery Words and Christmas Coffee.  It was wonderful and exacting and there were times when I couldn't see that it was possible - but it was and we did it and what's more I'd like to say we did it with a certain amount of style. 

 It’s hard when you are in the thick of all of that to reflect and so in the quiet of this weekend I’ve been enjoying doing just that.  I’ve been reflecting on the sheer volume of what we achieved but also of the quality inherent in that achievement.  I’ve been reflecting on the lovely comments we have had from yew tree members about their experiences of the term but also by parents and friends on how much they enjoyed the performances they saw.  I’ve been reflecting on the investment of energy, time, commitment and hope that each individual invested in the youth theatre over this frenetic time and I’ve been reflecting on what I could have done better and how I might change things in the future…it’s revealing and fulfilling, it’s also well needed.   Only by engaging in this reflection do we move forward in a mindful and positive way 


I’ve also been enjoying your reflections in your entries to the photo competition – they really do bring joy to my heart.  Over the next week I will be reflecting on the whole year as I try and identify my 3 highlights of YTYT 2014…I know – just 3…but I’m determined to try and pin it down…what would your three be I wonder…

Celebrating the past in the present...

  Next year Yew Tree Youth Theatre will be 30 years old.   We haven’t quite decided how we will celebrate - any suggestions would be gratefully received. No doubt there will be some nostalgic perambulating down memory lane and some haphazard but joyous celebrating of three decades of creativity we have shared.   Some variation of those two themes would feel fitting. This blog however is something different. This blog is a celebration of the present of those who attended YTYT in the past. Alumni, graduates, previous members – I can never seem to find the right term – but whatever word is chosen I know for sure they are part of the fabric of the youth theatre and I’m grateful to have known all of them, mainly because I have learnt so much from them.   I also can’t put a number on how many people have spent significant time with YTYT over the last 29 years.   I know we started with a group of 8 and now have about 80 members, I know at our peak just before COVID w...

Yew Tree Youth Theatre. 2024 - Fred

What a year (That's a good thing, by the way). My favourite shows, my favourite rehearsals, my favourite year; so you can hopefully gather that I've enjoyed it all.  But in all reality, my blog should start in 2023, as National Theatre Connections began then.  I had been cast, along with Izzy, in the role of Noush, which quickly I became attached to. As the rehearsal process continued into the year of 2024, I only grew to like the role even more. Kiss/Marry/PushOffCliff - as the play was called - soon shaped up to be a fantastic show. The year before (I know, this is meant to be 2024, but everything, after all, is interconnected) I'd shown interest in NT Connections but had shied away, thinking I was not capable enough for such a task. 2024 - A year for Robin

  2024. A year, for me, represented by change and new beginnings. A year that I used to think i’d never even live to see but now i’m here on the lead up to Christmas and I couldn’t be happier about the future. Although 2024 was plagued with change and uncertainty, YTYT has been the consistent rock throughout that I could always rely on. It was there at my lowest of lows and still there at my highest of highs. This year especially, this source of stability has been unimaginably helpful both in helping me recover, rebuilding my confidence and maintaining friendships in an otherwise rocky and unstable environment.   The Chaos Arc (Literally) : The start of my 2024 year in Yew Tree was defined by the ending of connections (which I won’t go into detail on as i’ve written a whole other blog about that experience) and Gold company’s version of Chaos.
