Just 6 days...
I genuinely am not sure where to start in trying to reflec t
on this week…we have achieved so much!
Straight after the exceptionally successful, “Reprise,” last Saturday in
less than a week we have staged an original musical, hosted an international
event and performed a piece of theatre that encouraged 19 year olds to think
about the kind of culture and community they want to create for
themselves. All of that in just 6 days.
To achieve something like that takes an exceptional amount
of thought, organisation, talent, commitment and above all graft and I definitely
had times when I wondered if the demands of this week were possible to achieve…turned
out we were more than up to the task, each of the events was of the standard we
expect at YTYT and beyond.
It’s a shame that it’s so difficult sometimes to visualise
the rewards to come when you’re in the middle of the struggle. It would make the motivation to get to the
point of performance so much easier, if you could glimpse the loveliness
inherent in want is to come. The amount
of unforgettable moments I’ve experienced since I last blogged…whether it be
the 7 year old who held it together and put in the performance of a lifetime in
“Something Special,” or the response of Black Company to the exceptional musicians
of Laergan as they visited from Norway.
The things that we do change lives…sometimes just a very little bit,
sometimes more significantly and it’s important in the midst of the struggle to
get to the culmination of our creative process that we remember that. After all there is a very real chance this
time next year we’ll be on our way to Norway…who’d have seen that coming a week
ago.
It was with relief and joy however that we were able to turn
the end of the week into a giant games fest, full of self indulgent merriment
and purposely lacking in any attempt to achieve anything other than enjoyment
of being in the same space. I look
forward to a July full of more of that…of course we have Nostell to devise,
write and stage and Christmas shows to devise and write but after a week like
the one we’ve just had anything is possible…
