Louis is the last of our farewell bloggers...
So here I am, 9 months after joining Yew Tree, and
ridiculously I have to say goodbye. It seems like such a short amount of time
to me now, and pales in comparison to the years and years of time other people
leaving have spent with the Youth Theatre, but I’m still sad that it’s over.
When I turned up in January, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I
had just made the decision to change to a Theatre Studies course in a different
university, and I wanted to get firstly some more acting experience and also to
actually have something to look forward to in what would become my full time
working week. What I found was a group of people that were likeminded,
accepting and a whole bunch of fun to be with. Any of the hesitance and nerves
I felt in my first session disappeared and quickly and abruptly as they
arrived, and that is a testament to what the people of Yew Tree are like, it
was so nice to be around genuinely good people. What’s more is not only did I
make some friends and have a ton of fun the entire time, but I learnt a whole
lot, about theatre and also about myself. I mean I was at a time of serious
self-reflection and doubt and I think that Yew Tree massively helped me through
that and made me a better person as a result.
My only regret is that I was so single minded when I was
younger and never seriously considered joining, the thought of having to
sacrifice rugby for theatre was absurd to me. But now I wish I had listened to
the people that said I should join and that would enjoy it. At least now I know
how great it is and I can be the one recommending to friends and family.
