A whole heap of new...
Obviously calendar wise the New Year falls
as December flips over into January but I’ve always thought that the transition
from August to September is an almost bigger and more significant beginning and
ending. For so many of the Youth
Theatre there is a new start…for some it’s a new chapter entirely – September
will bring the start of University life – leaving home, a new city, a new set
of friends…so many unknowns and potential adventures…for some the landscape
won’t change quite as much but there’s a change of school or at least a change
of year…whatever the situation there’s a whole heap of new to get used to built
on the strong and sturdy foundations of what’s come before…
Change is exciting, liberating and more
than a little frightening…I watch all of those Yewtreers on the brink of a
whole heap of change with such admiration at their courage but also with
absolute confidence that they’ll make it…not all necessarily smoothly from the
get go…but ultimately if they harness the creativity, generosity and resilience
they’ve shown in workshops and performances they’ll be ultimately successful
and do a whole lot of learning on the way…
What’s also exciting is that less
dramatically every September the youth theatre changes – not significantly in a
starting university way but in subtle shifts and shades – some people move on
and new people join us and although it’s hard to say goodbye it’s the natural
and right thing to happen…these changes allow the youth theatre to change into
the next shape it needs to be just like the changes in our lives show us the
shape we need to be for the next chapter of our lives…so enjoy the last couple
of weeks of August and get ready for the imminent adventure that’s waiting just
around the corner…
